EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) announced the operations commencement of the 297 MW Sharp Hills Wind Farm, a portion of which was initially developed by Eolectric Inc. (“Eolectric”)

January 22, 2024 – On January 22, 2024, EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) announced the operations commencement of the 297 MW Sharp Hills Wind Farm, a portion of which was initially developed by Eolectric Inc. (“Eolectric”),

The Sharp Hills Wind Farm required an investment of over $600 million Canadian dollars. It will have enabled the creation of nearly 400 jobs during the construction phase and 7 permanent jobs during the operations phase.

The power plant is located in the province of Alberta, Canada, near the towns of Sedalia and New Bridgen approximately 250 km northeast of the city of Calgary and conveniently close to the recently constructed 240 kV transmission line.

EDP Renewables Canada Ltd (“EDPR Canada”) acquired the Eolectric project in 2016 in addition to an adjacent project owned by another developer to form the large Sharp Hills Wind Farm project. Eolectric would like to thank and congratulate its partner EDPR Canada for successfully bringing this project to the commercial operations phase.

Eolectric began a wind measurement campaign in 2008 which extended over nearly 10 years. Eolectric also signed contracts with the project's land owners. Environmental studies on the site as well as stakeholder consultations were also carried out before the transfer of the asset to EDPR Canada.

The Sharp Hills Wind Farm has provided additional revenues to participating landowners as well as new quality local jobs in the energy sector during the construction as it will during the operational phase of the project for at least 20 years.
